Yes. Massachusetts law recognizes reasonable force to protect oneself from imminent harm. The force must be proportional to the threat. Massachusetts generally requires retreat if safely possible outside your own home. Inside your residence, the Castle Doctrine removes the retreat requirement. Self-defense is the most commonly raised A&B defense.
